11th Grade

Welcome to your junior year! This is a busy year as you prepare for your senior year and there is much to do to ensure that you finish off high school strong. Below is a junior calendar to help guide you throughout the year and we highly encourage you to meet with your counselor if you have any questions!


Junior Calendar


  • Review your high school courses and make sure you are taking all of the courses you’ll need for graduation, college and/or vocational planning.
  • Discuss college plans with parents.
  • Continue your involvement in community service and/or extracurricular activities.
  • Attend VHS college night.



  • If you are planning to go to a 4-year college, make sure you take the Preliminary Scholastics Aptitude Test (PSAT). The PSAT is a “practice” for the students planning to take the SAT. You can also qualify for the National Merit Scholarship.
  • Research college information by attending college fairs, visit the college and career center
  • Log onto Naviance and complete the College Super Match.



  • If you are visiting out of the area during the holiday breaks, visit some colleges and universities nearby.
  • Review your PSAT score for your strengths and weaknesses.
  • Make good academic progress. College admissions and financial aid awards will be based on GPA from sophomore and junior year grades. GRADES ARE IMPORTANT! (C or better)



  • Attend college spring preview days.
  • Start researching scholarships.
  • Register for March SAT. March– June con’t SAT Test dates:, March 11, 2017 (register by February 10th), May 6, 2017 (register by April 7th ), June 3, 2017 (register by May 9th) ACT Test dates:, February 11, 2017 (register by January 13th), April 8, 2017 (register by March 3rd), June 10, 2017 (register by May 5th) Note: SAT code for CSU’s 3594 and ACT use Score Manager Summer There are various pre-college summer programs available for juniors with a 3.0 or above, please consult with your school counselor.
  • Start working on your personal insight questions, access them through Early Senior Year
  • Attend college fairs and the VHS College Night.
  • Review your college plans with your school counselor.
  • Re-register for SAT and ACT.
  • Start applying for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at or CA Dream Act
  • NCAA: If you plan to play sports in college register at the eligibility clearninghouse with NCAA. 



  • Create/Update your resume on Naviance.
  • Sign up for SAT or ACT college entrance exams. You will be registering online, and the test itself is offered at VHS. Be sure to register by the deadline.
