Welcome to your Senior year! This is a very exciting year and there is so much to do! Below is a calendar of important dates to keep in mind during the year and to assist you with the college application process. Most importantly, make sure to keep in contact with your counselor throughout the school year!

Senior Calendar & Important Dates


  • Research and visit colleges- Apply to TARGET, REACH, SAFETY schools            
  • Update Naviance account: Email, “VHS letter of Recommendation form,” Resume, and college lists
  • Re-register for SAT/ACT. Make sure ALL colleges receive scores directly from testing company
  • Register for NCAA or NAIA Clearinghouse
  • Scholarship Search. Complete VHS Scholarship application on Naviance
  • Begin/Continue to write your college essay/Personal Insight Questions
  • Attend upcoming college visits in the Career Center
  • Attend Senior College Night , Sept 28th


  • Attend North County college fairs (See back of form)
  • Attend college preview days; Visit college reps
  • Visit college websites and begin application process online for community colleges, CSU, UC and private colleges
  • Apply for FAFSA starting Oct. 1 at by March 2nd
  •  Continue to write your college essay/personal statement
  • File CSS Profile at
  • Complete CSU- EOPS (Educational Opportunity Program) app if applicable
  • Request Letter of Recommendation on Naviance, finish Personal Insight Questions
  • Take SAT/ ACT
  • Attend lunch, 2:30-4pm and evening college app workshops in the CCC
  • Continue Scholarship Search. Complete VHS Scholarship application


  • Submit applications for UC/CSU        DEADLINE is Nov. 30th
  • Complete applications for Palomar / MiraCosta by Nov 30th
  • Attend college preview days; Visit college reps
  • Complete VHS Scholarship app on Naviance by Nov 30th
  • Attend lunch, 2:30pm-4pm and evening college app workshops in the CCC
  • Take SAT/ ACT


  • Last date to take SAT/ACT
  • Complete all private college applications BEFORE the holiday break
  • Complete SAT Subject tests for universities if needed
  • Sign up & Study for ASVAB
  • Visit colleges & continue scholarship search


  • Attend Financial Aid Night @ VHS Jan 18th
  • Continue Scholarship search
  • Complete mid-year reports for private colleges
  • Take ASVAB & attend results session
  • Complete community college scholarship application
  • Check your personal email for any correspondence from colleges


  • Complete mid-year reports
  • CSU- ELM/EPT Exams
  • Update community college app for Summer/Fall
  • Attend lunch, 2:30-4pm and evening FAFSA/Dream Act workshops in the CCC
  • Attend Cal-Soap Cash for College Fin Aid Workshops Feb 4th


  • Deadline for Cal Grants FAFSA, Dream Act- Deadline March 2nd.
  • Notification of UC/ CSU acceptances
  • Continue scholarship search
  • CSU- ELM/ EPT exams
  • Complete community college apps and testing
  • Study for CC assessments
  • Attend EAP Community College assessments at VHS
  • Continue to check your personal email for college correspondence
  • Visit college where you were accepted


  • Review university acceptances
  • Community College testing/applications
  • CSU- ELM/EPT Exams                    


  • May 1st is the National Candidate Reply Date. Notify college of intent to register.
  • Confirm Financial Aid with college
  • UC Writing Exam (if needed)
  • Complete Senior Survey on Naviance


  • Write thank you notes to teachers/counselors who wrote you recommendations and/or scholarship donors.
  • Request final transcript with Registrar
  • VHS Senior Scholarship Evening June 5th
  • Graduate! Congratulations Class of 2017!!!
