Mission Statement

Our Special Education Staff is committed to providing specialized academic and behavioral support and services to students with exceptional needs in order to fully engage them in high quality learning environments that challenge and prepare them to be well-rounded, active members of a global society.

Department Goal

The Special Education Department at Vista High School is dedicated to carrying out the Vista High School and Vista Unified School District mission statement. As a department Vista High Special Education Program will provide students with a common standards based curriculum, that support transitional and life skills for our students. Our program will strive to close the achievement gap, meet state standards, and promote learning beyond the high school. VHS Special Education Department works diligently to meet student IEP goals and objectives through effective instruction and individualized support strategies. VHS Special Education Department will provide and ensure that all students with disabilities are educated, self-directed and productive members of our community.

Our Special Education Staff has identified four key commitments that will ensure this mission is fulfilled:

  2. Guidance – program implementation in accordance with federal and state laws
